How can I rank my favourite horror movies?
Build your own horror top ten, from all-time favourites to slashers, haunted houses, and films from a particular decade.

“Best”, “favourite”, and “scariest” lead to different lists. A favourite may be a film you return to every October. The scariest may be one you never want to see again. Name the list after the question you mean to answer, such as Favourite slashers or Best haunted-house atmosphere. You can appreciate a film’s craft without putting it above something more personal.
Start with ten films you know
Mark familiar titles seen, add private ratings if you want, and create a personal list. Choose ten films, then put them in your own order. For a close pair, ask which you would rather recommend to a friend who shares your taste. You can revise the order after a rewatch. A small list makes the choices easier to understand than a numerical ranking of every horror film you have ever encountered.
Make lists for different parts of horror
An all-time list often fills up with the same big titles. Try a separate top ten for the 1980s, creature features, horror comedies, or one director. You can use Dreadlist’s editorial collections as starting points and make your own selections. Keep overlapping favourites if they belong in more than one category. These smaller lists also make useful building blocks for a themed marathon or Halloween countdown.
Understand editorial, personal, and member rankings
The editorial top 100 is an original Dreadlist selection developed with AI assistance, based on craft, influence, originality, atmosphere, and lasting impact. Your personal lists express your taste. Eligible paid members can separately submit ballots for the aggregate member ranking; that view needs enough real votes before showing a result. A private star rating is not silently turned into a public ballot. External audience information, where available, keeps its source and is not presented as a Rotten Tomatoes critic score.
Keep it private or share a snapshot
Your watch history and ratings are private by default. If you want someone to see a list, create a share link to its snapshot. Sharing does not give another person access to your whole diary. For choosing movies together, use a private Coven instead: its nominations, first choices, alternatives, and vetoes are about what the group wants to watch, which can be quite different from everyone’s all-time rankings.
